Properties: Advanced
(How to get there: Doubleclick a SecurDat directory list entry).
Encryption/Compression of the single backup files:
SecurDat has a proprietary encrypting feature: If the SecurDat Encryption option is switched on, then the backed up files will be encrypted. This encryption algorithm is very secure ...
The display of the passwort can be hidden. (The hiding characters +++ cannot be revealed with special programs like the Windows typical hiding characters ***). The password is case sensitive. You can decrypt the backup files in the Decrypt dialog. Be careful: There is NO chance to decrypt files encrypted with SecurDat without the correct password!
Additionally you may check the SecurDat Compression option, which compresses the backup files with a proprietary algorithm (for example a text file of 800 KB was compressed to 10 KB!).
The ZIP Compression optionmakes SecurDat compress every single backup file as ZIP file (for example a Example.txt file will be saved as a Example[00001].txt.zip file. The ZIP file also contains the information about the backup date/time and the path of the original file, so these informations are available also for other programs. The ZIP compression can be combined with the Limit number of copies for each file option.
(Alternatively files can also be backed up together in a single ZIP archive, if you add a .zip extension to the backup directory name (on the Target tab), for example G:\SecurDat Backup\Example.zip).
Additionally the ZIP archives can be encrypted with the ZIP Encryption option.
The Time monitoring option tells SecurDat to check in adjustable intervals if a file has changed in the monitored directory. This option is useful when working with certain database formats where a file change does not send a message to the operating system, and in combination with the Follow links option (see below). When this option is switched on it will be displayed as a clock icon in the SecurTray menu, and as a blue folder icon in the SecurDat directory list. It is also possible to combine this option with the Monitoring ON option.
The Follow links option for the first time allows folder independent backup sets! (This option must be combined with the Time monitoring option!). In the monitored source folder create links (shortcuts) to files which are located in any other directory and let SecurDat check in adjustable intervals if one of these files spread out over the hard disk has changed! These changed files then will be backed up by SecurDat! Normal files and linked files in the same source directory can be both monitored at the same time!
The Autoactivation option allows you to determine that files from a specific folder are automatically backed up only when a specific application program is loaded.
Example: You have defined 'C:\My stocks' as source directory, where different financial programs save the same kind of data. But you wish that only files which are saved from the program 'Financial Expert' should be backed up. So if you write 'Financial Expert' in this edit filed, then files from this folder are backed up only when the program 'Financial Expert' is loaded (and 'Financial Expert' is displayed in the title bar of the program window, since SecurTray scans the title bars of every loaded program).
If monitoring for a specific folder is activated in this way, then in the SecurTray popup menu on the corresponding entry a light green "LED display" is shining.
NEW: Now in addition to window titles also program names can be used. All names now are case insensitive. Now you can use more then one names (separate them with a semicolon; the monitoring will then be activated if one of these programs is running). On the right side of the edit field now there is a button which lets you display a popup menu which contains the window titles and program names of the programs which are actually running and which inserts them into the edit field. When the mouse cursor is over a program name in the programs sub menu the respective path is displayed (for better identification) in the status bar of the SecurDat main window.
The OK button closes the dialog and inserts the directory with its specific settings into the directory list. If any settings are incorrect or are missing (e.g. when a declared directory does not exist), then when closing the dialog you will be warned and directed to the incorrect setting.
The Cancel button closes the dialog and cancels any changes made in the dialog.
With the Help button (or by pressing F1 on your keyboard) you can display this help page.
The ToolTips checkbox permanently switches tooltips on/off for all pages of this dialog.
